U8 Teals Take on the International Cup Finals
The Road to the International Cup
The journey began back in October, when our U8s headed to London for the International Cup qualifiers knowing that only the top three teams would earn a place at the Finals.
What followed was an unbelievable day from the boys.
JDA went through the tournament without losing a game on the way to the final, producing some outstanding football against top-level opposition.
Then came a semi-final that would become one of the most memorable moments of the season.
Facing the three-time winners of the competition, our U8s battled their way through before the tie was decided by the famous ENG 2v2 decider.
The boys delivered when it mattered most, knocking out the defending powerhouse and securing JDA's place at the International Cup Finals.
It was an opportunity they had truly earned.
Finals Weekend
Fast-forward to May and it was time for another special weekend away with JDA.
The team headed to the Midlands on Saturday ahead of the Finals, turning the tournament into another fantastic experience for the players and their families.
The boys enjoyed team bowling and dinner together before heading back to the hotel ahead of the biggest tournament of their season.
After breakfast together on Sunday morning, it was time to head to Lilleshall National Sports Centre for the International Cup Finals.
Competing on the International Stage
The standard was exceptional.
JDA were competing alongside teams from England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, giving our players the opportunity to test themselves in one of the strongest environments they had experienced.
Our U8s battled their way through the group stages to secure a place in the quarter-finals.
There they were handed an incredibly tough draw against the team that would eventually go on to win the entire International Cup.
The boys gave absolutely everything.
In an incredibly tight game against the eventual champions, JDA were edged out by just one goal, losing 1–0 and bringing an incredible International Cup journey to an end.
An Opportunity They Earned
This wasn't simply a weekend away or another tournament.
The players had earned the right to be there.
From going unbeaten through qualifying, knocking out the three-time winners and securing their place at the Finals, to reaching the last eight and going toe-to-toe with the eventual champions, the journey showed just how far this group had come.
To see JDA competing on this stage alongside teams from across the UK and Ireland was an incredibly proud moment for everyone involved.
The football was only one part of it too. Travelling away, bowling, team meals, staying together and experiencing a major tournament weekend created memories that these players and their families will carry with them for years.
An unforgettable journey, an incredible achievement and an experience the boys fully deserved.
And now the challenge is simple:
Can we qualify again next season?
